Writing a to-be-read list of books can sometimes encourage us to read more. Books transport us to places we have never been and grant us access to a world of infinite imagination, knowledge, and adventures. If you are a book lover like me, you probably know what this feels like.
I believe you can learn about a person by the books they read. I am hoping we can bond over my to-be-read list. You will find some great book recommendations too! I think I have great taste in books, lol!
So, my to-be-read list is a mixture of fiction, self-development, and business books. Yes! I am not one to limit myself to just one type of book. I believe in reading across different genres; it’s enlightening and quite adventurous.
Here are the books I will be reading in the exact order:
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
Well, I have started reading this, and I am enjoying it. The story follows the turbulent marriage of Roy Hamilton—who is sentenced to jail for a crime he didn’t commit—and his wife, Celestial. It explores the complex relationships they share and shows their relationships with other characters they cross paths with. This New York Times best-seller was also selected for Oprah Winfrey’s book club, and it is the author’s fourth book and her most internationally acclaimed. I can’t wait to finish it and see how the story ends.
Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta
Trust me to include an indigenous book in my list. I love books that tell African stories and weave them in such a way that younger people can relate to them, and I imagine that’s what Chinelo has done with this book. From the summary and book description, I know that the book tells the story of a young girl, Ijeoma, and how the Biafran war changes her life, leading her to meet another lost girl, Amina, and how they become inseparable. The book also explores controversial subjects like same-sex relationships.
There have been great reviews, and I will be picking the book up after I recover from whatever drama awaits me in An American Marriage.
Harvard Business Review on Entrepreneurship
According to Professor Howard Stevenson, entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity beyond resources controlled. Running a business isn’t a walk in a park, but it can be smoother with the right information. I am a first-time entrepreneur, so it’s important I read books that will enhance my growth.
This will be a slow read for me as I will have to digest the nuggets from each article because they are all on entrepreneurship. I can’t wait to implement the lessons I learn in my business!
The Daniel Plan – 40 Days to a Healthier Life by Rick Warren, Daniel Amen, and Mark Hyman.
If you think this is a diet plan, you are not entirely wrong. However, this book is more than a diet plan. It delves into how we can achieve a healthy lifestyle by not only optimising what we eat but other life essentials like faith, fitness, focus, and friends. This is why I decided to buy this book. I have been struggling with my eating habits and need to do something about it. However, most books on ‘healthy lifestyles’ usually focus on food and going to the gym alone.
I am hopeful that this gives me a fresh perspective and an all-encompassing approach to a healthy lifestyle I can sustain.
The 5 A.M Club by Robin Sharma
If you have been following my blog, you would know this isn’t the first Robin Sharma book I am reading. I love his books because they contain valuable life lessons, and I can’t wait to read this one. From what I know about it, the book talks about owning your life by rising early. I am curious to see how rising early does not only help people accomplish great results but also enhances their feelings of happiness and fulfilment.
Robin Sharma has a way of using amusing stories to pass vital messages, so I trust that he will deliver on this one too!
Well, that’s my TBR list, and who knows, I might do a review on some of the books when I am done reading them.
Have you read any of the books on this list?
Write a review in the comment section. No spoilers!
As for me, I will immerse myself in the world of Roy and Celestial, travel under the Udala tree, move to the world of business, explore a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle, and finally stop at the 5 A.M club.
Wish me luck in my adventure!
